BJP seeks bill supporting separate Telangana in Parliament

Opposition Leader in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj on Sunday demanded that the Centre table a bill in Parliament for formation of Telangana State, alleging that Congress has betrayed the people of the region on the statehood issue.

“The government should introduce a bill for formation of separate Telangana in the next session of Parliament and the BJP would fully support it,” she told a convention of Telangana protagonists organised by the BJP here.

Slamming the government’s reported idea to appoint a committee headed by a Supreme Court judge on the issue, she said it is nothing but an attempt to put the issue on the backburner.

“All consultations and talks are over. Further consultations are not acceptable. They should table a bill in Parliament in the next session,” she said.

The Centre would have to accede to the Telangana demand as all sections of society in Telangana have come together setting aside all differences, she said.

“Every idea has its time. The idea of formation of separate Telangana State has come,” she said.

Congress has betrayed the people of Telangana on the separate statehood demand, Ms. Swaraj alleged.

“Home Minister (P Chidambaram) had announced before the media on December 9 that cases against students will be withdrawn, Chandrasekhar Rao would call off his fast and we will move towards the formation of Telangana state. People thought it is a gift of Sonia Gandhi on her birthday. But how can the government go back on its promise after making the statement on TV?

“This is nothing but a betrayal of the people of Telangana. But how many times you will cheat? Separate Telangana agitation was held in 1969. Separate Andhra movement took place in 1972. How many times you will cheat?”

Ms. Swaraj said she made every effort to raise the issue in Parliament.

“I did table a private members bill on Telangana. But President’s consent is needed to take it up before debate. The President did not give approval because the matter concerned the division of a State,” Ms. Swaraj said.

The NDA government would have formed the Telangana State along with Jharkhand, Chattisgarh and Uttarakhand but the Telugu Desam, which extended outside support to it, opposed the plan, she said.

She appealed to the students and Telangana supporters not to commit suicides for the cause.

Congress MLAs, MLCs not for deadline on Telangana

Congress MLAs from Telangana have decided against pressing their resignations ahead of the January 28 deadline set by the Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC) to pressure the Centre to come out with a time-bound programme for formation of separate Telangana.

MLAs and MLCs from the region have also resolved not to set any deadlines to the party leadership for speeding up the process for formation of Telangana. They have, instead, decided to intensify “lobbying” with the Centre urging it to take up follow-up action on its January 5 initiative of holding discussions with all recognised parties on the separate Telangana issue.

Several Ministers, MLAs and MPs have decided to go to New Delhi to explain the prevailing situation and convince the high command to clarify apprehensions on the formation of the Telangana State. After holding elaborate discussions on Monday, these leaders refused to say whether they continued to be the constituents of the JAC.

“TRS BEING UNILATERAL”

The participants deliberated at length about the unilateral decisions being taken by the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) leaders and other constituents of the JAC. A majority of the Congress MLAs and MPs were said to have expressed concern over the TRS’ efforts to project itself as the champion of Telangana cause.

Tendulkar and Dravid make happy scoreboard

It is a duo that has weathered storms and painted pretty pictures.

Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid’s shared theme of durability was displayed again at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium here on Monday. Tendulkar’s 45th ton, Rahul Dravid’s 29th century and their 222-run partnership for the third-wicket helped Dhoni’s men tighten their grip on the second Test against Bangladesh.

At close on the second day, India scored 459 for five and with an unfinished lead of 226 is set for another triumph while leading the series 1-0.

MISHAP

A day of batting riches was, however, marred when Dravid (111, 188b, 12x4) got retired-hurt after a Shahadat Hossain bouncer with the second new-ball, did not climb as expected and slammed into the batsman’s helmet visor. Later Tendulkar, Murali Vijay and Harbhajan Singh’s soft-dismissals had minimal effect as India marched ahead with captain M.S. Dhoni at the crease.

Tendulkar (143, 182b, 13x4, 1x6) and Dravid had their streaks of fortune as catches were dropped and a run-out was avoided while they remained equal to the task of coping with a sluggish pitch.

They also became the best pair for 100-run partnerships through their 17th successful alliance. The earlier record of 16 belonged to the pairs of Ricky Ponting-Matthew Hayden and Gordon Greenidge-Desmond Haynes.

Shakib swirled in his left-arm spin with a negative line and a packed on-side. The pace trio of the two Hossains (Shahadat and Rubel) and Shafiul Islam, removed the slip cordon, kept two gullies and tempted the batsmen to slash. Later as reverse-swing surfaced, two short mid-wickets were placed to choke any mistimed shot off the incoming delivery.

UNFAZED

However, Tendulkar and Dravid remained unfazed. Initially Dravid used his feet and freed his arms while Tendulkar took some time to gauge the pace of the pitch. Tendulkar also enjoyed his share of reprieves on 27 and 53 while Raqibul Hasan dropped him twice at gully off Rubel and Shahadat.

Tendulkar soon drilled his shots through the in-field with a whip off Rubel being the pick. The maestro’s slog-sweeps and Dravid’s inside-out drives negated spin as the partnership gained depth. The on-drives and backfoot-punch were also employed as Dravid continued to flourish though a close run-out call, late in his innings, tested his patience.

Dravid reached his 100 while denting the cover-picket and along with Tendulkar added value to the earlier efforts of Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir.

BOUNCED OUT

It was not Sabina Park and there were no Caribbean drawls of ‘give him the perfume ball’. But out there in the middle, three bouncers tweaked in a different sub-text during the first session. Sehwag and Gambhir succumbed while Dravid survived to add a touch of welcome drama.

Sehwag (56, 63b, 8x4) pummelled a few through the off-side but was surprised by Shahadat’s bouncer. On his toes and with the bat inches off his nose, Sehwag fatally fended to signal the end of a 103-run partnership with Gambhir.

The odd delivery kept low and the pitch began its share of surprises but Gambhir (68, 83b, 9x4), in the form of his life, reached his 50 to equal another record. The opener signed his name alongside Vivian Richards for scoring 11 consecutive Test fifties and the other fabulous record of Sir Don Bradman beckoned.

A sixth successive Test century seemed there for the taking but Shafiul, steaming in from around the wicket, cramped Gambhir with his angle and the bouncer had the intended effect. An ungainly Gambhir helped wicket-keeper Mushfiqur Rahim exult again.

LUCKY ESCAPES

Dravid, meanwhile, enjoyed two slices of luck on nine and 28. A Gambhir drive had earlier narrowly missed Shafiul’s outstretched palm and crashed into the non-striker’s stumps with Dravid backing up too far.

A few overs later, Rubel’s bouncer caught Dravid off-guard, a diving Junaid Siddique ‘caught’ at slip and the man from Bangalore began his pavilion-bound walk before pausing on seeing Billy Bowden’s ‘no-ball’ call.

Sambho Siva Sambho review

Bellamkonda Suresh, who made many blockbusters with top stars like Balakrishna happened to watch Nadodigal, a Tamil film, and was impressed with the subject. The film needs at least three heroes and contacted Ravi Teja who also liked it. Both of them had decided to go for a remake of the film and they asked the director of the original film Samudra Khani. They also chose to rope in music director Sundar C Babu of the original again for this film. The film had lots of emotions, entertainment, action and friendship in its backdrop. Once again it was proved that any film would be a hit, if it has a good subject and a director who could deal with the story with a gripping screenplay...

Karunakar (Ravi Teja), Chandu (Siva Balaji) and Malli (Allari Naresh) are good friends. Of them Chandu is a little more educated and wants to establish a computer institute. His father is an ex-serviceman and is very friendly with him. Karunakar, who completes his graduation with history is trying his best to secure a government job. The reason behind this is that his maternal uncle (Tanikella Bharani) wanted to give his daughter Manemma (Priyamani) to a government employee. Malli is the son of a handloom weaver (Kota Srinivasa Rao), who had plans to leave for abroad to earn money. His father is a hen-pecked husband as he opts a second marriage after the death of Malli’s mother. Chandu is in love with Karunakar’s sister. All the three friends had lots of faith on love and is ready to do anything for friendship and love. All of them belonging to Rajahmundry.

In this backdrop, Karuna’s friend, who is the son of an MP (Roja) reaches their place from Hyderabad and makes an attempt to commit suicide. After he was saved, the friends come to know that he made suicide bid as the elders were against to their love. He fell in love with a girl from Kurnool. Despite knowing fully well that their lives are in risk in the faction-ridden Kurnool, the three friends take the boy with them to Kurnool and get him married with the girl. In the process Chandu loses his leg, while Malli turns deaf due to an attack by the factionists. Following a complaint by the MP that they kidnapped her son, the three are arrested. Meanwhile, the factionists in order to take revenge kill the grandmother (Radhakumari) of Karunakar. Learning that Karunakar was arrested, his uncle refuses to marry Manemma with Karunakar and looks for another alliance. Karunakar silently walks away from Manemma’s life. At this juncture, the friends trio comes to know from another friend (Rao Ramesh) who gave shelter to the lovers couple that they both got separated in no time. The friends go to both the boy’s house and the girl’s house for a patch up but to no avail. Then they kidnap both the boy and girl and tell them that they were dead as they lost faith in love and they ditched the love. True friends will unite lovers and help their friend to win in their love. They continue their journey with the same theme even afterwards.

PERFORMANCE:
Ravi Teja gave a brilliant performance all through the film. Being the lead actor among other heroes, Ravi Teja has a little more lengthy character when compared with other two heroes. Ravi Teja too played very well and showed his power in action scenes as well as scenes which has the shades of sentiment, romance and friendship. Next comes Allari Naresh. In fact, Naresh dominated in performance among the other heroes. He gave an extraordinary and brilliant performance. Nandi awards will not be given to the artistes for remake films. If they break this rule, Naresh would definitely get another Nandi award for best supporting actor on the lines of Gamyam. He performed above the audiences expectations. Siva Balaji also gave an equal bright performance but he has very little scope on the screen. Priyamani once again proved that there is a good artiste in her. Her character was chirpy and chivalrous in the first half, while she played an altogether different character in the second half in a complete deglamorous role. Other artistes including Roja, Mukesh Rushi, Tanikella Bharani, Ahuti Prasad did justice to their characters. Comedy by Krishna Bhagawan and Sunil tickled the funny bone of the audiences.

HOT NINJA FOR RULING YOUTH

Yes you have read it correct. If words from Bajaj officials are anything to go by, you will soon be riding one of these machines for 3 Lakhs or thereabouts. Some of you might say 2 lakhs… isnt it too much? No sir, you would be horribly wrong if you think so. With the present duty structure, this bike if imported, would cost anywhere between 3.5 - 4 lakh rupees. So how, you would ask Bajaj would manage to sell it at 2 lakhs?

In a nutshell, it means that some parts would be made locally while major components like engine and gearbox would be imported.

Bringing a product via the CKD route attracts the least duty, close 30-40 percent, but it also means that an assembly line is needed and some parts would also have to be sourced locally.

Conversly, the Yamaha R1 is being brought into India as a CBU and hence more than 100% duty and therefore a product which costs around 5 lakhs in US, costs 10.5 lakhs by the time its here.

In a first again for the 2 wheeler market in India, Bajaj will import the Ninja 250R as CKD to avoid high import duties and hence would be able to price the bike at a very competitive 2 lakh rupees. This move yet again shows the commitment Bajaj has towards the Indian 2 wheeler market and how it wants to give the customer the best possible product at most competitive prices. We just hope that other companies also follow suit.

Infact we had such an announcement from Suzuki. We will post once we have further updates on this.
